The core of the business here at Shelby Farm is the arable enterprise.
We farm 1400 acres at home with another 500 on contract farming agreements. We grow wheat, barley, Oil seed rape, vining peas for Birdseye and potatoes. Alongside the arable we keep 200 breeding ewes and 150 store cattle that we raise. The arable and livestock work along side each other as the grass and barley we grows feeds the animals to produce local farm produce and quality meat and the farm yard manure goes back into the soil to fertilise the crops. We practice regenerative farming methods including cover crops and direct drilling to keep our soil in the best possible health and benefit the local wildlife.
We also offer agricultural contracting services throughout East Yorkshire and collaborate with other local farmers in busy periods throughout the year.
We are now expanding into diversification and the newest venture is the indoor padel court which has been converted out of a grain store. This is a doubles court, with viewing area, coffee machine, vending machine and changing rooms.
We are looking to expand what we can offer local horse riders in the future with an off road hacking track and livery spaces.
